The Porch

My favorite place,
Is painted in white,
And everything about it,
Brings me afternoon delight.

Floral scents surround this place,
And the breeze brings a chill.
There is a part of me,
That wishes to stay here all day,
and if I could, I know l will.

There is a time of day,
That I long for to come,
A time to reflect,
A time to ponder.

In this place there is serenity,
Erases worries of here and yonder.

Update on Izzy's Tail

I was surfing for Izzy's Tail's link to share it with Axlepin Publishing's (Philippines) head and voila! I found an online newspaper article featuring an interview with the author.  I'm grateful that my name as an Illustrator was mentioned.  I shared the article with friends and family :)

Do Your Ears Hang Low

Yippee! I received my media copy of "Do Your Ears Hang Low" today from Speakaboos.  It was pure joy to see my kids reaction when they started watching it.  My five year old told me to save the video on the desktop so he can watch it all over again :)

An Apple a Day

© Catherine Sunga

I finally had time to render my first artwork for my Children's Illustration Portfolio 2012.  I wanted to draw subject I'm not used to very much like Izzy's Tail.  When I read the final text of the book and found out the subject will be a gecko.  I told myself, how can I make a lizzard look adorable? But as I go along, it wasn't that difficult after all :)

Tiny Treasures

It's the first day of the New Year.  I cleaned by desk to start with character sketches for a book inquiry from an up and coming author.  I also washed my Woolo and Buttercup Bunny my two favorite stuffed toys that has been with me through thick and thin for over nine (9) years now.  They have been with me through any life event and the kids seem to understand that these two have some kind of immunity so they never take it off of my desk.  They know these are Mommy's :)

Presentation Counts

I was up against two (2) Illustrator's when the publisher asked me to send character sketches of Izzy.  And so I used my PowerPoint skills and made a short presentation about an excerpt from the book.  Voila! I got the project.  The publishers told me that they really liked my presentation.

For 2012, I made my personalized address label which I will use for my submissions to publishing companies.  I might get rejected but the consolation is knowing that gave it my best shot and did something unique :)

Playground

I'm preparing my new portfolio for 2012 so I can resend them to publishing companies.  It would be great if I get one book project for the year :) Will post the rendered version of this line art shortly!

Advanced Happy New Year everyone!

A Colorful World

Another illustration inspired by my favorite series "A Little House on the Prairie".  Thought of calling this one "A Colorful World".

Paradise

Here's a sketch of the book I'm planning to write and illustrate myself.  I'm funding this book and will market this well in honor of my late brother Sonny Boy.  The story of the book is based on our life experience as children.  Set in our favorite play place called 'Paraiso ng Batang Maynila' (Paradise of the Child of Manila).

Part of the profit I will make I will use to open up a fund to sponsor the study of a poor child back home.  It has always been a dream.  It's about time to start and make this dream into a reality.
